Nick Drake - One of these things first (mp3)

It surprised me to learn when searching for information on nick drake, that he has been dead for over 30 years. He had a real original voice, and immaculate instrumentation. He really shines on the track "one of these things first". He melts an acoustic guitar and piano together, and centers
the song off with a lulling vocal melody. The song will dredge up thoughts of lazy days around a fireplace.

Frankie Sparo - See My Film (mp3)

I know most of you have the attention span of a fruit loop, and probably won't read past the word "most". I'll try and keep it entertaining for you ruffians and misanthropists. Frankie Sparo is from Quebec. Normally, that means he cries himself to sleep and bruises easily. In this case, Frankie Sparo is a cool band who's lyrics I can't understand...and then I punched him in the kidney and said "I ordered lemon with my water!"(just keeping it entertaining). If you're looking for a song where the verse is just as catchy as the chorus, you won't find it here. Frankie Sparo lets the instruments and mood do the talking (since he rarely hits more than 3 notes a song). So check it out. Boobies.

The sound of animals fighting - all is ash or the light shining through it(MP3)

The sound of animals fighting is a collaboration between members of Circa survive, rx bandits and finch. The album Tiger and the Duke, has a rock feel but mostly ventures into the territory of Prog/experimental. Tiger and the Duke is TSOAF's first effort, a new album is currently in the works. Don't turn this track up too loud cause your ears just might bleed.

The Frames - Finally

Yeah, it's been a while. Anyway, enough pleasantries. The Frames are a cool irish band. Atleast, I think they're irish. I think someone as cool as Scottie Pippin would listen to The Frames. If it's good enough for the Milkman (I call him the Milkman), then it's good enough for you. So take a break from posting on My Chemical Romances' message boards and give a listen to a band who probably doesn't wear makeup. Yeah, I went there home girl.

Fall of Troy - Laces out, Dan! (Mp3)

Releasing their self-titled debut at the age of 16, three piece Fall of Troy felt it didn't quite capture their energy and sound. So in January 2005, they signed to equal vision, and shortly after released Doppelganger, an eleven song disc that is pure chromatic energy from start to end.

Mute Math - Peculiar People (mp3)

The first thing you'll probably notice when listening to Mute Math is Paul Meany's vocals. You can hear a huge influence of Sting in his reverb drenched melodys. The only thing I find not quite appealing is his lyrics. But this isn't too much of a big deal 'cause Mute Math somehow seems to make them work for thier songs. The music itself is very inventive and at times schitzophrenic, making Mute Math a very sonically pleasing listen. They are currently on tour with Circa Survive and Mae. If the tour comes within 500 miles of your town, dont miss it.

Heatmiser - Plainclothes Man(mp3)

I'm not here to insult your intelligence. You probably already know who Elliott smith is. You already know who The Shins, Iron and Wine, Mogwai, and Murder by Death are, because you probably have their lyrics riddling the profiles of all 6 myspace-like sites you frequent. So I'll try real hard and think of cool stuff you may not have heard before. In return, I'll need: a shovel, a container of GAK, five sticks of juicy fruit (IN MINT CONDITION, DON'T THINK I CAN'T TELL), and a Chuck Norris poster with him doing a spin kick. Please contact Gon3mad for information on sending payment. Oh, and also listen to Heatmiser, they rule more than that one time Gon3mad jumped on a bicycle with no seat.

Ambulance LTD - Sugar Pill (mp3)

Ambulance LTD (the "LTD" is a legal thing, the band is refered to simply as "Ambulance") is a New York based rock quarttet, whose influences range far and wide. Listening to their music it is easy to hear Elliott Smith, or The Velvet Underground. Their 2004 self-titled debut album, and only their second release after the initial EP, is a collection of songs that each seem to point in one direction or another of 60's and 70's rock. I don't know how many people reading this have played the PS2 game Katamari Damacy... but imagine that someone went into the rock and roll hall of fame, and picked up the major non-glamrock, non-punk rock music of the 60's and 70's, a little classic rock (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones), a little motown, a bit of blues and jazz, add a some modern indie rock (most notably Elliott Smith and Mogwai) and some not-so-modern indie (The Pixies), rolled them into a ball, and then proceeded to serve it in bowl with a cherry, whipped cream and those little chocolate sprinkles.

Ambulance is in some ways, nothing new. It can easily be described as rehashed and out-of-date stylism. It could be said that they are one band of a movement that is the musical equivilent of thrift store fashion. But they bring something more than that to the table. To be able to recreate a sound, or a certain feeling that music provokes is that something more. Is it "just another" indie rock band? or is it just more of a good thing? That's up for individuals to decide. I just think it's good indie rock.

Andrew Bird - Skin is, My (MP3)

The Mysterious Production of Eggs is Andrew Bird's newest album. Andrew Bird is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter. Although his album is excellent, Andrew is at his best at his live shows. Using a loopstation, he plays all the instruments live, creating layer upon layer. Its truly delightful to watch. If you ever have a chance to catch him live, hes a must see. He's definately an extremely inventive musician. He's mainly known for two things, his violin playing, and his whistling. The song ive posted today is "Skin is, My". Its One of my personal favorites of his.

Anthony Green-I've been trying to reach you

Anthony Green is definately at the forefront of Indie rock. He originally started and fronted a band called Saosin (now signed to capitol records) and has now moved on to his current project,Circa Survive. Anthonys lyrics are far from cliche and he's got a superb vocal range. The song I've posted here of his, is something he did in between his two bands. I talked to Anthony a few times, and I asked him if he had any plans to do anything with this song. He said it could possibly be on the next circa record, but he really wanted to re-make the song with a more rock feel. I personally believe this is one of his best songs to date. If you like this song make sure you check out the links to anthonys other music. Enjoy.
